If you watched the Super Bowl, you probably were too focused on the amazing comeback to notice how few hashtags were used in the commercials.
This headline from Daily Mail caught my eye today.
Is it the end of the #hashtag?
Of course not.
Is it a lessening of brands’ clamoring to stand out on social media?
Daily Mail was writing about an annual report by Marketing Land that showed tremendous use of hashtags in 2014 (57% of commercials used one) versus this year which showed a noticeable decline.
Are marketers getting the desired results from attempts to integrate commercials with social media? Time will tell. But one thing is certain: The only constant in Internet marketing is change.
